Ramadan Fundraising Policy

This is IAY’s policy regarding fundraising in Ramadan. This policy will be used to determine the organizations that will be granted permission to conduct a fundraiser during Ramadan. 

Process for Obtaining Fundraising Opportunity:

The first Friday and the last night of Taraweeh in the month of Ramadan are reserved for IAY fundraising.

Official request through an online application – application closes 3 weeks before Ramadan begins. 

  1. Verification for non-profit tax-exempt status.
    • Check with IRS on the validity of the non-profit ID: http://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/
    • Can be done by the EC Secretary, since the application includes all documents needed.
  2. EC Meeting will be organized to decide the organizations based on the following criteria:
    • Local organizations and other urgent needs (locally, nationally, and internationally) will be given preference.
    • EC would consider prior fundraising opportunities for an organization in the decision process.
    • A mixture of different categories of organizations will be covered – masjids, orphanages, refugee organizations, etc.
  3. Notification will be sent to the organization by the EC Secretary/President. 

Notification to be sent to approved organizations:

  1. The organization will also be given 5 minutes after the first 4 rakaah of Tawareeh.
    • This timing will be strictly enforced.
    • This time shall only be used to tell people about the organization and for fundraising.
    • We request that the fundraiser not put any person on the spot.
  2. You will be provided with a table in the hallway/inside of the
    • These tables shall be set right after dinner between Maghrib and Isha.
    • These tables will allow interested members to approach the table to sign the pledge forms.
    • Organizations are permitted to pass pledge forms at these tables, as well as pass them on to people as they enter the masjid premises.
  3. You will be required to bring your fundraising team at least 15 minutes before Isha Salah.
    • In case of an emergency, we may give priority to fundraising to urgent In such a case, your appointment will be delayed.
  4. All cash donations will first be counted at the IAY’s Imam office, and a check will be issued to your

    • To maintain the normal operation of the masjid, we retain $00.00 (to be determined by the PT /EC Board).
  5. Details about each visiting organization will be communicated within our weekly email/EC President – Phone call.
    • Please provide your website address and a statement about your organization in less than 50 words.
  6. Screens can be used to run a slideshow describing an organization that will be present for fundraising.
    • A slideshow of 3-5 slides containing information about the organization can be played between Maghrib and Isha.
    • All slides should be respectful of the Islamic etiquette of the prayer area.
    • All slides must not contain any images of living beings or sounds.
    • The slides should be submitted at least one week before the date when they need to be played.
Jumuah Fundraising Policy

This is IAY’s policy regarding the Jumuah Fundraising to be used in determining organizations that will be granted permission to conduct a fundraiser on a Friday prayer.

Method for Seeking Fundraising Opportunity:

  1. Official request through an online application
  2. Verification for non-profit tax-exempt status
  • Check with IRS on the validity of the non-profit ID: http://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/
  • Can be done by the EC Secretary, since the application includes all the documents needed.
  1. Approval by the EC-President or Zakat Committee (Financial Chair, Imam, Social Chair)
  2. Jumma designation by Imam
  • One fundraiser Jumuah a month
  1. Listing/Prioritization
  • To make the process of selecting an organization more value-based, we have decided to measure the organization’s interest in the IAY community by their willingness to market to the IAY community through the monthly news magazine which is a great site for increasing their brand recognition and improving their fundraising performance.
  1. Notification will be sent to the organization by the EC Secretary.

Notification to be sent to approved organizations:

You will be required to have your khateeb/khateebs for 2 Jumuah prayers.

  • First Jumuah prayer is at 12:00 noon. Second Jumuah prayer is at 1:30 pm
  • IAY will not take any percentage of the money collected on this day to maintain the normal operation of the masjid, we retain $00.00 (amount must be decided if applicable)
  • You will be provided with a table in the hallway/ inside of the masjid.
  • All cash donations will first be counted at the IAY-EC office, and a check will be issued to your organization. A representative from your organization may be present during the counting.
  • In case of an emergency, we may give priority to fundraising for an important event that may happen. In such case, your appointment will be pushed next.

Expectations of the Khateeb:

The speaker is expected to be well-versed in the English language, recite the Quran well, and be dressed appropriately to lead the Jumuah congregation.
